Back to the Roots: Join the Wesleyan Vile-tality Study This Week

What happens when faith steps beyond the sanctuary? This week, our church dives into Ashley Boggan’s "Wesleyan Vile-tality," a study that revisits how John Wesley met people where they were—sometimes outside church walls—and sparked a movement.

Why This Study Matters

In 1739, Wesley preached in the fields of Bristol to reach neighbors disconnected from the church. Critics called the effort “vile.” Wesley embraced the label and kept going. This study invites us to learn from that bold, practical faith: breaking barriers, extending grace, and living the gospel in everyday life.

This Week’s Sessions

Choose the time that fits your schedule. All are welcome—first-timers included.

  • Sunday, Sept. 28 — 9:00–9:45 a.m., Room 207 (in person)
  • Tuesday, Sept. 30 — 7:00–8:00 p.m. (online via Zoom)
  • Wednesday, Oct. 1 — Noon, Prayer Bites Study in the Narthex (in person)

What to Expect

  • Short, focused sessions: Each gathering stands on its own—join any week.
  • Real-life connection: Explore how early Methodists welcomed outsiders and practiced grace in action.
  • Open conversation: Bring questions, curiosity, and a willingness to listen and learn.

Come As You Are

No prep needed. Bring a friend, grab a seat, and help us reclaim a "vile-tal" spirit that meets neighbors with courage and compassion—inside the building and beyond it.

Looking Ahead

Additional sessions continue into early October. If this week doesn’t work, plan to jump in soon.

Field or classroom, pew or Zoom screen—let’s gather, learn, and live our faith where people actually are.
